Caravan winch
Boat & Quad Bike winch
Trailer winch
|
This winch is aimed directly at the caravan, small boat, quad bike ATV and small trailer market, but it also has a multitude of other uses. It is ideal for effortlessly pulling your caravan, boat or trailer up a driveway, particularly for those difficult situations where the driveway is on an incline. It can also reduce the risk of personal injury, as you no longer have to struggle by physically pulling and pushing, a boon for those who suffer with back problems for example. A winch is the ultimate caravan mover.. The LT2000 has a line pull of 907 kg. ( 2,000 lbs.) and has 15.0 Mtrs. of high tensile wire rope with a hook and safety latch. The LT2000 has a free spool mechanism that allows you to quickly spool the wire rope off the winch drum, this saves time and battery power, however the winch will also power out as well as in, so you can lower your load down a hill under full control should you need to. As a guide we say that the LT2000 will pull most caravans, but for heavier caravans particularly if you want to pull your caravan up a long or steep driveway the GP Series winches offers a larger pulling capacity. People often get confused between dead weight and rolling weight. If you consider that you can not lift your caravan, (unless your name is Tarzan) but you can push it, this is the difference between rolling weight and dead weight. The winch only sees the load, and it is the amount of force that it needs to exert to move the load which is the line pull requirement. In other words, In the case of a caravan it would be the rolling weight. It is what a strain gauge would read if you put one in series with the wire rope and the load it was pulling. As you winch in and the wire rope builds up on the winch drum, the winch becomes less powerful with each layer of wire rope as you are effectively changing the gear ratio. All our winches are rated on the first layer of wire rope on the drum. As a guide we say that there is a 10% loss of power with each layer of rope. If you have a long driveway you will need a more powerful winch to allow for a full drum of wire rope, in which case you recommended to buy one of the GP Series winches which are more powerful and have longer wire ropes fited. As an example the LT2000 which has a rated line pull of 907 kg. on layer 1. On layer 2 = 907-10%=816 kg.. On layer 3 = 816-10%=734 kg.. On layer 4 = 734-10%=661 kg.. On layer 5 = 661-10%=595 Kg.. So you can see that with just five layers of cable on the winch drum what started out with 907 kg. line pull is now reduced to 595 kg. You should also remember that winch cables never spool onto the winch drum evenly, this results in cable bunching which in turn compounds the problem of layer build up and in turn a loss of pulling power as described above. A winch can also be used as a portable unit, so you can take it with you in case you get in to trouble, i.e.. becoming bogged down in soft ground, you can then winch yourself out. See our tow ball mounting and wiring kits below. The LT2000 is a small lightweight winch that can be mounted to the house or garage wall, a post, or can bolted down on the driveway, as long as the driveway is of solid construction. The integral mounting plate which forms part of the winch chassis has two bolt holes in it. By using two high tensile strength bolts you can easily attach the winch to any of the above. It is your responsibility to ensure that what ever you bolt your winch to is sufficiently secure to do the job. ( we are unable to advise further on this issue) This winch is designed for outdoor use and can be permanently mounted outdoors. It is advisable that you should use a protective cover in these instances when the winch is not in use. Winches like to be used, long periods of inactivity, particularly during winter months when left outside are not advised. Periodic operation of your winch is good practice, and helps amongst other things to prevent condensation build up in the motor and gearbox. You will need a good quality heavy duty 12 volt battery as this winch will draw a lot of current, as you can see from the specification sheet, so after use you will have to recharge the battery. When choosing a battery explain to your supplier exactly what you need the battery for, and give the current draw figures. If you want to connect the winch directly to the car battery or a caravan battery you must use good quality cable, the same type as your car battery uses. The winch does come with a short length of electrical connecting cable approx. 1 Mtr. to enable you to connect to a battery in close proximity. The winch control switch is a heavy duty rotary switch. You can upgrade to a Roggle switch which is a rocker type switch this is handy for handlebar mounting on a Quad Bike. Special plug & sockets are available for permanent vehicle wiring installations or extensions, enabling a easy and quick way to connect and disconnect your winch from the battery. You could have one of these special sockets fitted to the rear of your car, or the "A" Frame if you are going to use the caravan, boat or trailer battery, and the special plug fitted to your winch. You can NOT use your 7 pin trailer socket due to the very high current draw, see technical specifications. ATV Style Handlebar switch kits are available. (See Below) ATV Accessory Kit is available. (See Below) A Circuit Breaker assembly is supplied and MUST be fitted as it forms part of the electrical protection, failure to fit will void the warranty.
